PDF Annotations through MS Edge not showing through DocumentUltimate
Problem reported by Edward Browning - 6/24/2019 at 6:15 AM
Resolved
I have a PDF document that looks as though it has been annotated (add notes feature) through Microsoft Edge. I can see the annotations when I open the document in Edge, Chrome and Adobe Acrobat Reader, but when the PDF is viewed through DocumentUltimate, the annotations are not visible. If I right click within the viewer and choose "select" and then marquee select where the annotation should be, I get a dashed red box around the annotation, but the annotation itself is invisible.

If I annotate the PDF myself in Edge, upload the document to my web application and view through DocumentUltimate, my annotations are displayed, but the client's annotations are still invisible. I have no way of knowing how the client annotated the PDF originally, but I can provide the PDF document to gleamtech for testing, however I am not able to provide the document to the community for privacy reasons.

I am using GleamTech.Core 2.0.1.0 and GleamTech.DocumentUltimate 3.8.0.0

Hi,
Microsoft Edge browser which was very buggy on earlier versions of Windows 10.
Microsoft is constantly improving it so make sure your user installs updates via Windows Update one a while (the Edge browser is updated via this way only).

Similar to you, I added a new annotation with Microsoft Edge 42.17134.1.0 on my computer and the new annotations in the saved PDF was visible in DocumentViewer.

So we can't do anything about the buggy behavior of old version of Microsoft Edge. Probably it saves the annotation in a non-standard way in the PDF. Most PDF viewers can display the saved PDF but the problem occurs when the PDF is converted to XPZ (the internal format DocumentViewer uses to display the document in the browser).

Thank you for your response. Although I'm unable to determine what the client used to update the PDF file, or what system/version they were running, we can at least update our intermediaries with this information.
