Has anyone purchased a maintenance subscription recently?

I'm trying to figure out what an extension to the 1 yr maintenance subscription might cost and how long is the extension period.

Whenever you need to purchase a maintenance subscription or upgrade your license, please go to http://www.gleamtech.com/upgrade and paste your existing license key. On this page, you will see your existing license information, your upgrade options, free license key for the latest version if elligible and download links for the latest release.

I see this is from 2016...has anything changed regarding maintenance? Am I correct in my understanding that there is no maintenance contract, that if we need to get the latest version, we simply need to check to see if an upgrade is possible? Just trying to figure it out for budgeting if we need to plan on spending anything this year on FileUltimate.
